“PIT STOP”
26 Jan 2010 - 27 Mar 2010
Men encouraged to take a "PIT STOP" at this year's Farm World field days
It's no secret that men don't like visiting the doctor. Compared with women, men are up to three times more likely to die of coronary heart disease, twice as likely to die of skin cancer, three times more likely to commit suicide - and much less likely to visit the doctor.
At this year's Farm World event at Lardner Park, local health organisations will be putting the spotlight on men's health. Men who may have been neglecting their health and feeling more like a clapped out bomb than a V8 supercar have the chance to put their body through the pits for a free health check.
Pit Stop is for men and is based on a mechanical concept, likening parts of the body to an engine. Men can have their oil level (blood pressure) checked, duco (skin) examined and shock absorbers (coping skills) tested.
The challenge on the men of Gippsland is to see if their bodies will pass the pits or be issued with a yellow sticker for follow-up maintenance!!
The Pit Stop initiative is a partnership between Central West Gippsland Division of General Practice, Latrobe Community Health Service, Relationships Australia - Victoria and other Central West Gippsland Primary Care Partnership members.
It will run on Thursday 25 & Friday 26 March at Farm World's site TM 8 - 10.
The Pit Stop concept was developed by the Gascoyne Public Health Unit of Western Australia.
